    The seal requires our website compliance check, which reviews cookies, tracking, privacy policy and third-country transfers.

  2. Step 02

    Seal award

    After remediating any issues, you receive the seal plus an embed code for your website.

    Re-certification

    One year after award we refresh the audit and renew the seal so it stays continuously valid.

What clients ask about the seal.

Does the seal protect against warning notices?
The seal is not a disclaimer; it documents the compliance status at the time of the audit. Issues arising after the audit (e.g. newly embedded third-party services) are not covered. In a dispute, the audit record helps considerably.
What is the difference between the seal and the website compliance check?
The compliance check is the technical review itself. The seal is the visible award you may display on your website after passing the check. The two belong together: no check, no seal.
How long does the seal run, and how do I cancel it?
The seal is valid for one year from the audit date and the subscription renews automatically for another year. With annual re-certification it remains continuously valid. An email is sufficient to cancel, with 3 months’ notice to the end of the contract term.
Where and how do I embed the seal on my website?
Via an embed code for your website. Clicking it opens a verification page showing the latest audit date and a link to datenschutz frankfurt, as proof for your visitors.
What fines and penalties are possible?
Several frameworks apply side by side. GDPR (Art. 83 GDPR). Breaches of the processing principles, the legal bases, data subject rights or transfers to a third country (Art. 83(5) GDPR): up to €20 million or 4 % of worldwide annual turnover. Breaches of controller and processor obligations, such as the record of processing activities, security of processing, breach notification or appointing a data protection officer (Art. 83(4) GDPR): up to €10 million or 2 % of worldwide annual turnover. Whichever amount is higher applies. Alongside a fine, a supervisory authority may order, restrict or prohibit the processing; section 42 BDSG additionally makes certain intentional acts a criminal offence, punishable by up to three years imprisonment or a fine. German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG) (section 28 TDDDG). Accessing terminal equipment without the consent required by section 25, for example tracking cookies set before consent: up to €300,000. The GDPR continues to apply in parallel wherever personal data is involved.
